Well Project in Twifo Otuanu Camp, Central Region, Ghana
Operation Blessing International - Living Water Projects: Ghana
  • Dedication: September 20, 2012
  • Village: Twifo Otuanu Camp, Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District, Central Region
  • Plaque Inscription: Sponsored by small beginnings BIG RESULTS
in Loving Memory of David L. Wilson, Jr. and Family
  • Approximate population of the village: 1,000
  • Number of beneficiaries of this project: 1,000
  • Closest water source before this project: The villagers either had to go into the forest, where they drew water from a borehole and then had to carry it uphill for about 1 km to the village, or else walk about 2 km to another community.
Descripton of the Project:  The new well was constructed in a central location within the village to ensure easy access to all the villagers. The well was built with a hand pump and a surrounding concrete floor.

Descripton of the village & people:  Twifo Otuanu Camp is fairly large, quite hilly, and covered with rain forest. The villagers live in houses built with mud bricks and roofed with zinc sheets. They work as farmers, traders, and hunters. There are schools and churches in the community to serve the people.
Description of the well dedication and Salvations:  A presentation of the Gospel was shared with the villagers, after which the opportunity was given to the people to accept and live for the Lord. Those who made the decision were prayed for and advised to fellowship with any Bible believing church of their choice. About 125 people attended the ceremony, of whom 22 made decisions to follow the Lord.
Expressions of appreciation:

Aboagye Kwesi, Wasan Committee Member:  "We are mostly grateful to you for what you have done. We had a great need for water, especially during the dry season. We had to walk long distances to another community in search of water. Thank you for what you have done!"

Dennis Yaba, Assemblyman for the area:  "Every morning the children have to walk for 2 km (1.2 mi) to the other communities to search for water for their use. We are truly grateful to you for providing us with good drinking water."
