Operation Blessing International - Living Water Projects: Ghana
  • Dedication: June 4, 2016
  • Village: Soponso, Ahafo Ano District, Ashanti Region
  • Plaque Inscription: Loving Memory of Margaret E. Wilson - Family
Sponsored by small beginnings BIG RESULTS
  • Approximate population of the village: 1,750
  • Number of beneficiaries of this project: 800
  • Closest water source before this project: The community has depended on streams and a shallow open well. The people also collect rainwater when possible.
Description of the Project: A new well was constructed in the village. The inside of the well was cemented with concrete and a 38-foot pipe with a new Nira pump was provided to dispense the water.

Description of the village & people:  The inhabitants of Soponso are peasant crop farmers who grow cocoa, cassava, plantains, peppers, and rice. A few of the people are small traders. Their houses are well built with concrete blocks and zinc roofs. They have few churches in the area, and the children have to walk about a mile to school. There are no clinics or electricity to serve the community.
Description of the well dedication:  About 60 people attended the well dedication ceremony. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was shared to those gathered. After the presentation, those who desired to have Jesus as their Lord and personal Savior were prayed for and asked to join a nearby Bible-believing church in the community.

Hygiene Lecture: After the dedication, Pastor Nadabo gave a hygiene lecture for those present at the well site. He talked to them about the need to take good care of the well and its environment. They were also encouraged to store their drinking water in a clean container at home after fetching from the bore well. They were all happy and excited about the information.

Outreach and number of salvations: 28
Expressions of appreciation by the villagers:

Oliver Kwame Owusu : "We are very thankful to CBN for this Godly work. Water is a great need for us here in Soponso, so this facility is a blessing from God. I'm sure this is will end our water struggles. May God bless you!"

Joseph Debrah, Assembly Member : "On behalf he elders of our community, I wish to thank CBN for this project. It has come at a very crucial time. Water has been a major need in the community and it has affected us so much. Women and children have to go to the stream to fetch water for their use. With this new well, our women will not have to walk that far for water. It will also drastically reduce waterborne diseases. This is a great relief to the community and we thank you very much. May God richly bless you!"

Maa Ataa Esibey : "I am very thankful to you for helping our village with a provision of potable water. Unfortunately, we have lived without good drinking water for a long time. We are grateful to you for providing us with this new well."
