  • Village: Ofoase Korkorben, Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Ashanti Region

In Memory of Dr. Pat Lieveld
  • Approximate population of the village: 1000
  • Number of beneficiaries of this project: 500
  • Closest water source before this project: The villagers fetched their water from a shallow well in the community and harvested rain water for their use.
Descripton of the Project: A new well was constructed in the village. The inside of the well was cemented with concrete and a 64 foot pipe with a new Afridev pump was provided to dispense the water.

Descripton of the village & people:  Ofoase Korkorben is a village along the Kumasi-Obuasi Highway in the Bekwai Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The people have lived in the community for over 12 decades. They work as peasant farmers, growing cassava, plantain, cocoa, tomatoes, peppers and many other crops. Some of the inhabitants do petty trading along the highway. Their houses are well built with clay and concrete blocks, and roofed with zinc sheets. They have churches, schools, and a clinic to serve them.
Description of the well dedication:  About 30 people were at the well dedication ceremony. The Gospel presentation was shared to encourage the people to live for Jesus Christ and a relationship with Him. The gospel was shared from John 3:16, how God gave us His only Son to reconcile us back to Himself. After the presentation, those who saw the need to have Jesus as their Lord and Savior were prayed for and asked to join any Bible believing church in the community.

Hygiene Lecture: After the dedication, Pastor Nadabo gave a hygiene lecture for those present at the well site. He talked to them about the need to take good care of the well and its environment. They were also encouraged to store their drinking water in a clean container at home after fetching from the bore well. They were all happy and excited about the information.

Outreach and number of salvations:  7
Expressions of appreciation by the villagers:

Hon. Effah Michael, Assemblyman for Ofoase Korkorben : "I am very thankful to you for providing us with good drinking water. Our old water source was very bad; we shared the water with animals. This brought a lot of health problems to the people in the village. Secondly, our water source was very far from the community and this was stressful for the women and children who walked far to fetch water for their use. On behalf of the community, I wish to thank you for this wonderful gift of water. We appreciate it and ask God's blessing upon the donors. May God richly bless you all."

Joyce Adjei, beneficiary:  "We appreciate this potable drinking water you have given to the community; we really appreciate it and thank you very much for the gesture. God bless you."
