Well Project in Clu Town, Eastern Region, Ghana
Operation Blessing International - Living Water Projects: Ghana
  • Dedication: December 21, 2013
  • Village: Clu Town, New Juaben Municipal Assembly, Eastern Region
  • Plaque Inscription: Sponsored by small beginnings BIG RESULTS
    In Honor of Pat Lavin
  • Approximate population of the village: 1700
  • Number of beneficiaries of this project: 1000
  • Closest water source before this project: The villagers depended on water from the Municipal Assembly which was not provided regularly. When the municipal water was not available, the villagers had to walk to a stream a mile away.
Descripton of the Project: The Living Waters team built the new well in a central location for the villagers to have easy access. The inside of the well was cemented with concrete and a 37 foot pipe with a new Nira pump was provided to dispense the water.

Descripton of the village & people:  The people are peasant crop and livestock farmers. They grow crops like maize, cacao, cassava, and pawpaw. They also do some small trading. Their houses are well built with clay bricks and concrete blocks and roofed with zinc sheets. They have a church, clinic, school and electricity in the village. The village is in a predominantly Muslim area.
Description of the well dedication:  About 45 people attended the dedication ceremony. The Gospel was shared from the book of Isaiah 55:1, in which God said that anyone who is thirsty can come to Him and drink for free. God demonstrated His love to us by giving us His only begotten Son, and that anyone who believed in Him should not perish but have ever lasting life. They were encouraged to give their lives to Jesus Christ. Those that accepted Jesus were encouraged to find a Bible believing church to attend.

Hygiene Lecture: After the dedication, Pastor Nadabo gave a hygiene lecture for those present at the well site. He talked to them about the need to take good care of the well and its environment. They were also encouraged to store their drinking water in a clean container at home after fetching from the bore well. They were all happy and excited about the information.

Outreach and number of salvations: 3
Expressions of appreciation by the villagers:

Alhaji Tijani, Zongo Neighbourhood Chief : "On behalf of my community I thank you for this relief. We have suffered for good potable drinking water for a very long time. Our effort has not yielded any positive result until you came our way. We appreciate the work you’ve done and shall take good care of this well and also enjoy good drinking water."

Mr. Kasim Amed, youth organizer:  "Thank you for coming to our aid with this well. We are used to the drinking of contaminated water, which gives us a lot of skin infections. I thank God for using the kind donor to bless us with good drinking water. This clean water will help solve our problems with waterborne diseases in this community and therefore we are very happy. Thank you!"
