Well Project in Baah Asare Fie Obratima,
Eastern Region, Ghana
Operation Blessing International - Living Water Projects: Ghana
  • Dedication: September 12, 2016
  • Village: Baah Asare Fie Obratima, Suhum Municipal Assembly District, Eastern Region
  • Plaque Inscription: In Honor of Mychal and John-Anthony Ceruti,
Sponsored by small beginnings BIG RESULTS
  • Approximate population of the village: 2,000
  • Number of beneficiaries of this project: 1,400
  • Closest water source before this project: The community has depended on a shallow well, streams, and harvested rain water for their use.
Description of the Project: A new well was constructed. The inside of the well was cemented with concrete and a 35 ft pipe with a new Nira 85 pump was provided to dispense the water. Currently, this well is the only potable water source for this area. Therefore, the entire population must use it for drinking. The village still may need to use the polluted stream for washing or bathing.

Description of the village & people:  Baah Asare Fie Obratima is one of many farming villages in the Suhum Municipal Area on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The village has been in existence for more than eight decades. The inhabitants are peasant farmers who grow cocoa, cassava, plantain, tomatoes, peppers, and other cash crops. A few of the people are petty traders. Most of their houses are well built with concrete blocks and 'alu-zinc' sheet roofs, while a few dwell in mud-brick houses with a thatch roof. Amenities enjoyed by the community include churches, schools, and electricity.
Description of the well dedication:  There was a short presentation of the Gospel to encourage the people to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Savior. After the presentation, some gave their lives to the Lord and were encouraged to join cooperative churches in their locality. About 75 people were at the dedication ceremony.

Hygiene Lecture: After the dedication, Pastor Nadabo gave a hygiene lecture for those present at the well site. He talked to them about the need to take good care of the well and its environment. They were also encouraged to store their drinking water in a clean container at home after fetching from the bore well. They were all happy and excited about the information.

Outreach and number of salvations: 22
Expressions of appreciation by the villagers:

William Normenyo : "On behalf of the community, I thank CBN for the provision of potable water. We have suffered from the lack of good drinking water and we are really thankful to your outfit. This facility in the community will help the community. We therefore appreciate it and ask God's blessing upon the donors. I am very glad today because we can enjoy hygienic water."

Adiza Marko : "We really appreciate this water project you have given to the community. We are very thankful for the provision of this well; we can now drink good, clean water regularly. God bless CBN and all its donors."

Aponsah Akuffo : "God richly bless you for coming to the aid of the community with potable water. We are very grateful for your help in providing us with this key physical need of water - and not just any water, but good drinking water. We say thank you for this wonderful gesture. God bless you!"
