Well Project in Aguwan Malam, Kaduna State, Nigeria
Operation Blessing International - Living Water Projects: Nigeria
  • Dedication: November 23, 2012
  • Village: Aguwan Malam, Ikara District, Kaduna State
  • Plaque Inscription: Sponsored by small beginnings BIG RESULTS
in Honor of Howard and Marie Simpson
  • Approximate population of the village: 1,600
  • Number of beneficiaries of this project: 300
  • Closest water source before this project: The closest water source was an open well. Apart from the fact that it was prone to all sorts of dirt and parasites, the open well did not sustain water throughout the year. During the dry season, the shallow open well become dry.
Descripton of the village & people:  Thevillage is about 25 km from Zaria, the closest big city. The people in the community are of mixed faith: Muslims and Christians. They are peasant farmers, growing maize (corn) and groundnuts (peanuts), making barely enough to feed themselves.

Description of the well dedication:  Pastor Sani Nadabo dedicated the well on behalf of the Living Water Project at a ceremony attended by 59 men, women, and children. For the community, it was a joyous day and the people were clearly filled with excitement and gratitude.
Hygiene lecture:  At the well site after the dedication, Pastor Nadabo conducted a hygiene lecture for all the people present. He spoke about the need to take good care of the well and its environment and encouraged the villagers to keep their drinking water from the well in clean containers. The lecture was well received by the people, who promised to protect and maintain the well.
Outreach and number of salvations: An outreach could not be done openly. However, the local church saw the well as an opportunity for one on one witnessing. Therefore, the well serves as a bridge for building a continuous relationship with the villagers.

Expressions of appreciation:

Mallam Bulus Bature, village chief:  "We are grateful to you for providing us with clean drinking water. On many occasions we went to the Local Government Authority to request a well, but to no avail. The presence of this well is life to us now. We value it so much! We will take care of it. We thank God and your organization for this great gift. Thank you!"
